Carpenter Andy works with young people not in employment, education or training in Cornwall, helping them to develop craft skills, confidence and access to education
Andy runs the Xtravert programme, a project coordinated by the social enterprise Real Ideas Organisation based in Cornwall. Xtravert enables young people not in education, employment or training, collectively termed ‘NEETs’, to develop craft skills through building skate ramps and bespoke commissions to be used in their communities. Xtravert won the Convergence Employment and Skills Award in March 2010 at the Southwest European Social Fund (ESF) Awards. Due to the success of the programme, Andy is now developing Xtravert into a financially self sufficient, non-profit-making business.
Andy initially trained as a furniture designer and began work producing bespoke furniture and interiors. Previous to Xtravert he has delivered a range of carpentry projects including the design and build of museum and science centre gallery fit outs. Andy also runs workshops which produce electrical mechanical interactives.
