Co-author of Making Value: craft & the economic and social contribution of makers (Crafts Council, 2010), a seminal qualitative study exploring the diverse sectors to which makers add value and bring vital craft knowledge.
Dr Karen Yair led on convening Assemble 2010. In her role as Research and Information Manager at the Crafts Council (2008-2010) Dr Yair developed the organisations current Research Strategy and co-authored ‘Making Value’ with cultural sector consultant Mary Schwarz. Karen has worked in a range of regional and national research and public policy roles, with a focus on the creative and cultural industries. With a background in glass making, Karen’s doctoral research explored the role of craft in new product development. Karen now works as a freelance research and policy consultant specialising in the cultural and creative industries.
