A leading Professor in the fields of craft and design, Mike posed the key questions of the day as Chair of Assemble 2010
Professor Mike Press is Chair of Design Policy and Associate Dean of Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee. He has written widely on design, innovation and contemporary, including authorship of three books, including “The Design Agenda: a guide to successful design management” and “The Design Experience”. He is also a contributor to television and radio programmes on design.
He was joint director of the Home Office funded Design Against Crime research project from 1999. He has been shortlisted for the Sir Misha Black Medal for Innovation in Design Education. He is a former Chair of the European Academy of Design and a member of the editorial board of The Design Journal.
His research on craft includes being commissioned by the Crafts Council to undertake research for the Learning Through Making project. He has published more recently on craft and digital process, and was joint director of the Pixel Raiders conference with Dr Jane Harris. Chair of the Challenging Craft conference in 2004, he has also supervised and examined a number of PhDs in craft disciplines including textiles, jewellery, metalwork and ceramics.
