Tom explores broad and surprising social themes through his intricate papercuts
Tom Gallant examines the pathologies underlying the West’s continuing fascination with pornography and collector culture. His interests in Victorian decorative craft and his training in the traditional far-eastern techniques of Kirigami and Origami conjoin in his works in which highly intricate and beautiful shapes are cut and folded from pages extracted from pornographic magazines.
Gallant’s work has been displayed in Wonderland: New Art From London, ASSAB ONE, Milan. Recent group shows include Slash: Paper Under the Knife at Museum of Arts and Design, New York, Back to the Future, Robilant + Voena, London and Media in Transition II, Hamish Morission Galerie, Berlin. His work is included in a substantial number of important private collections all over the world.
